in 1987, the U.S. Catholic Conference and the National Conference of Catholic Bishops selected Capitol Satellite and Communications Systems (C2S2) -a division of Capitol Broadcasting Company, to originate and provide technical coordination for “Papal Visit ’87” a ten day visit by Pope John Paul II to various cities across America. From the WRAL-TV studios in Raleigh, 13 days of television coverage of the Papal visit was uplinked by C2S2 to cable systems. The coverage was seen by more at least 18,000,000 viewers. More than 70 staffers from Eternal Word TV Network (EWTV) and Catholic Telecommunications Network of America (CTNA) joined with Capitol Broadcasting employees in the effort to provide coverage of the Papal Visit ’87. The following video was produced by C2S2 Operations Manager Bob Gubar who served as producer for the complex, high technology effort.
